What color of gold should you choose for an engagement ring?

The choice of gold color for your engagement ring depends on your skin tone and personal style. 18k yellow gold offers a warm, timeless hue, particularly flattering on olive or darker skin tones. 18k white gold, with its subtle silvery shine, beautifully complements fair skin and wonderfully enhances white diamonds. 18k rose gold, romantic and modern, suits all skin tones and brings a delicate, feminine touch.

All our engagement ring models are available in these three gold colors, handcrafted in our workshops. The gold used is 750/1000 (18k), guaranteeing quality and durability for a piece of jewellery you will wear every day.

Should you choose a solitaire or a pavé ring for an engagement?

The solitaire remains the great classic among engagement rings: a single centre stone set on a sleek band, capturing all the light and symbolising the uniqueness of your commitment. Clean and timeless, it never goes out of style.

Pavé rings add diamonds along the band or around the centre stone, creating extra sparkle and a more elaborate look. They suit those who love refinement and precious detail.

Our Gold Engagement Rings collection offers both styles, as well as bold character rings (Kali, Shanti, Devi, Saral, Indrani) for strong personalities seeking a unique piece. All models are available, from the simple solitaire to the most elaborate creation.

Diamond or coloured gemstone for an engagement ring?

The diamond remains the traditional engagement stone, a symbol of purity and eternity through its unchanging brilliance. It suits every style and stands the test of time without losing its modernity.

Coloured gemstones bring a more personal and symbolic dimension: sapphire evokes loyalty and wisdom, emerald represents hope and renewal, ruby embodies passion and ardent love. Black diamond appeals to original spirits seeking a bolder aesthetic.

Our collection features these natural gemstones across different models. The choice depends on your taste, the personality of the one who will wear the ring, and the symbolism you wish to celebrate.

How can I secretly find out my partner's ring size?

Discreetly finding out a ring size is part of the charm of the surprise. Several tricks can help: borrow a ring she wears on her left ring finger and measure its inner diameter, enlist the help of a close friend, or compare her hand to that of someone whose size you already know.

Mayuri provides a free downloadable PDF ring sizer on the site, which you can use with an existing ring or directly if the opportunity arises. Our engagement rings are available in standard sizes 47 to 58, with any size available on request at no extra charge.

If in doubt, resizing remains possible: it is offered free of charge within one month of receiving the piece, once only, provided the ring has not been worn or engraved. Be sure to plan the timing of your proposal to stay within this window. After one month, a quote is provided upon request.

What budget should you plan for a gold engagement ring?

Our Gold Engagement Rings collection covers a wide range of budgets, allowing everyone to find a ring that matches their expectations.

Several factors influence the price: the type of stone (diamond, sapphire, emerald, ruby), its size and quality, the amount of precious metal used, and the complexity of the craftsmanship. A discreet solitaire will naturally be more affordable than a richly set pavé ring.

To make your purchase easier, payment in instalments is available via Alma or PayPal. Find all the details on our dedicated page about instalment payment. Payment by card, bank transfer or cryptocurrency also remains possible.

How long does it take to receive an engagement ring?

If the chosen model is in stock in your size, your engagement ring is shipped within 24 hours. You receive it quickly, ideal for proposals that are fast approaching.

For a ring made to order (specific size, personalisation) or fully bespoke, allow 3 to 6 weeks. This time allows our craftsmen to shape your piece with the care it deserves.

If you are planning your proposal for a specific date, we recommend planning ahead and contacting us at bonjour@mayuri.fr to confirm timelines. We do everything we can to ensure your ring arrives in time for this unique moment.

Can a Mayuri engagement ring be engraved?

Yes, engraving is possible on our gold engagement rings, adding an even more personal dimension to your piece: initials, the date of your engagement, an intimate message.

Personalisation options vary depending on the model and the space available on the band. For any engraving or personalisation request, contact us at bonjour@mayuri.fr: we will review your project and advise you on the possibilities.

If you would like a ring that is entirely bespoke, unique and designed specifically for you, our team will also guide you through this creative process, from sketch to final piece.

Gold or platinum for an engagement ring?

18k gold (750/1000) offers an excellent balance of purity, strength and aesthetic variety thanks to its three colours (yellow, white, rose). It suits the vast majority of people and stands the test of time across generations without ever going out of fashion.

Platinum has specific qualities: naturally white (no rhodium plating needed), it is hypoallergenic and particularly recommended for sensitive skin. Denser and rarer than gold, it offers exceptional durability and barely tarnishes, developing a noble patina over time.

Several of our engagement ring models are also available in platinum as an alternative to gold. The choice depends on your skin sensitivity, your aesthetic preferences and your budget, as platinum is generally more expensive.

How does buying an engagement ring online work?

Buying an engagement ring from Mayuri is entirely straightforward. You can explore our collection at your own pace, review the technical details of each model, and order with complete confidentiality.

Each ring comes with a certificate of authenticity (upon request), attesting to the quality of the metals and stones. You benefit from a 2-year warranty on your gold jewellery, as well as lifetime support.

If the ring is not a perfect fit (size, look), you have 30 days to return it free of charge within France (return label provided). Resizing is also offered free of charge within one month of receipt, once only, provided the piece has not been worn or engraved: plan the timing of your proposal so you can take advantage of this without rushing. After this period, a quote is provided upon request.

Are Mayuri engagement rings ethical?

Ethics are an integral part of our approach. Our gold engagement rings are made with more than 80% recycled metals, significantly reducing the environmental impact linked to mining.

The gold we use comes from traceable and ethical supply chains. Our workshops are small-scale or RJC-certified (Responsible Jewellery Council), guaranteeing respectful working conditions and responsible practices.

All our gemstones (diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies) are natural. We prioritise transparency about the origin of our materials and our artisanal manufacturing process, so that your engagement ring is beautiful both in appearance and in the values it carries.

Does Mayuri offer engagement rings for men?

Yes, our Mars collection offers engagement rings specifically designed for men, in the same spirit of quality and craftsmanship as all our creations.

These models are available in 18k gold (yellow, white or rose) and some also in platinum. Standard sizes range from 52 to 70, with any size available on request.

Whether for a simultaneous double proposal, to celebrate an engagement between two men, or simply because he wishes to wear a ring symbolising commitment, our collection offers elegant, timeless pieces suited to a masculine build.

What is the difference between 18k gold and other karats for an engagement ring?

18k gold (marked 750/1000) contains 75% pure gold alloyed with 25% other metals (copper, silver, palladium, depending on the colour). This karat represents the best balance for an engagement ring: sufficient purity for the nobility of the metal, mechanical strength for everyday wear, and lasting shine.

14k gold (585/1000) contains less pure gold, making it more resistant but less precious. 24k gold (pure gold) would be too soft for a ring worn every day. 9k gold, while sturdy, lacks the visual richness and value associated with an engagement ring.

All our engagement rings are exclusively made in 18k gold, the recognised standard in fine French jewellery, or in platinum for certain models. This choice guarantees a precious, durable piece worthy of symbolising your commitment.

All your questions about gold engagement rings

The questions we are asked most often about gold engagement rings: materials, care, symbolism and styling advice.

What is the traditional meaning of a gold engagement ring?

The gold engagement ring has embodied commitment and the promise of union for centuries. Gold, an imperishable precious metal, symbolises the durability and purity of love. Its intrinsic value represents the importance of the commitment made.

The ring's circle, with no beginning or end, evokes eternity and the continuity of the bond of love. Worn on the left ring finger, it follows a tradition dating back to Ancient Rome, where it was believed that a vein connected this finger directly to the heart.

At Mayuri Paris, our 18k gold engagement rings carry on this symbolism while embracing a contemporary and ethical approach, with traced and predominantly recycled metals.

Why is 18k gold recommended for an engagement ring?

18k gold (750/1000) represents the perfect balance of purity, beauty and strength for an engagement ring meant to be worn every day.

With 75% pure gold alloyed with 25% other metals (copper, silver or palladium depending on the colour), this alloy offers:

  • Sufficient strength to protect the centre stone and withstand daily wear
  • Intense brilliance and colour that stand the test of time
  • Internationally recognised quality as the premium standard in jewellery
  • Excellent skin compatibility, even for sensitive skin

All Mayuri Paris engagement rings are crafted in 18k gold, guaranteeing a precious piece worthy of your commitment.

Can you wear your gold engagement ring every day?

An 18k gold engagement ring is designed to be worn daily. The 750/1000 alloy offers the strength needed to accompany your hand through everyday gestures.

A few simple precautions help preserve its shine:

  • Remove the ring during intensive manual work or when handling harsh chemicals
  • Take it off before sports activities with a risk of impact
  • Clean it regularly with lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush
  • Have it checked annually by a professional to verify the setting

18k gold does not tarnish and naturally keeps its colour. Mayuri Paris rings come with a 2-year warranty and lifetime support to accompany you over the long term.

What is the symbolism of the diamond on an engagement ring?

The diamond is the stone of choice for engagement rings, carrying powerful symbolism. As the hardest known natural material, it represents the indestructible strength of love and eternal commitment.

Its formation deep within the Earth over billions of years evokes the patience and depth of feelings. Its exceptional brilliance and fiery sparkle symbolise the light that a loved one brings into your life.

Diamond solitaires form the heart of our collection of gold engagement rings. Each diamond is a natural gemstone, selected for its quality and unique character, reflecting your own love story.

What do coloured gemstones mean on an engagement ring?

Coloured gemstones offer an alternative to the white diamond, each carrying its own symbolism:

The sapphire, with its deep blue, evokes faithfulness, loyalty and wisdom. A truly royal stone, it represents sincerity of feeling.

The emerald, with its intense green, symbolises hope, renewal and harmony. It embodies the couple's growth and the union's prosperity.

The ruby, passionate red, represents ardent love, passion and courage. It celebrates the intensity of feelings.

At Mayuri Paris, our gold engagement rings can feature these natural gemstones, allowing you to personalise your proposal with a gem that tells your unique story.

Where does the tradition of the engagement ring come from?

The tradition of the engagement ring dates back to Antiquity. The Egyptians were the first to exchange rings made of reed or hemp, symbols of eternity through their circular shape.

The Romans adopted this custom with iron rings, later made of precious metals. Gold gradually established itself as the noble material par excellence, reflecting the value of the commitment.

In the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church incorporated the ring into the betrothal ritual. The first documented diamond engagement ring dates back to 1477, given by Archduke Maximilian of Austria to Mary of Burgundy.

Today, this tradition endures and continues to evolve. Mayuri Paris collections reinterpret this heritage with contemporary creations in 18k gold, combining timeless symbolism with modern aesthetics.

What is the difference between an engagement ring and a wedding band?

The engagement ring and the wedding band play distinct roles in a couple's journey, even though both are worn on the left ring finger.

The engagement ring is given at the time of the marriage proposal. It marks the promise of union and is generally distinguished by a showcased centre stone (diamond, sapphire, emerald...). Crafted in gold with an intricate setting, it draws the eye and celebrates this unique moment.

The wedding band is exchanged on the wedding day. Traditionally simpler, it is a plain gold ring, sometimes set with small diamonds, symbolising the official and lasting union.

Both rings can be worn together after the wedding. At Mayuri Paris, our 18k gold engagement rings are designed to pair harmoniously with different styles of wedding bands.

How do you care for a gold engagement ring set with a gemstone?

An 18k gold engagement ring set with a gemstone requires simple care to maintain its brilliance:

Regular cleaning at home:

  • Prepare a bath of lukewarm water with a few drops of mild soap
  • Let the ring soak for 15 to 20 minutes
  • Gently brush with a soft toothbrush, especially underneath the stone
  • Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth

Precautions: avoid harsh chemicals, thermal shocks and ultrasonic cleaners for certain fragile stones such as emerald.

Professional check-up: have the setting checked annually. Your Mayuri Paris rings come with a 2-year warranty and lifetime support for any maintenance needs.

Why are some engagement rings also offered in platinum?

Platinum represents a precious alternative to gold for an engagement ring, with its own specific characteristics.

Advantages of platinum:

  • Maximum purity: used at 95% (compared with 75% for 18k gold), ideal for very sensitive skin
  • Higher density: a heavier metal, offering a luxurious feel when worn
  • Exceptional durability: remarkably resistant to wear, never tarnishes
  • Natural silvery-white colour that does not require rhodium plating

At Mayuri Paris, several engagement ring designs are also available in platinum to meet these specific expectations. The choice between gold and platinum depends on your aesthetic preferences, budget and skin sensitivity.

Are rose gold engagement rings durable?

18k rose gold engagement rings offer the same durability as yellow or white gold. The 750/1000 alloy guarantees strength and longevity.

Rose gold is created by alloying pure gold with copper (which gives it its pink hue) and a touch of silver. This composition creates a metal that is:

  • Resistant to daily wear thanks to its 18k purity
  • Stable over time: the colour is intrinsic to the alloy and does not fade
  • Slightly harder than yellow gold due to the copper content

Rose gold is increasingly popular for engagement rings, prized for its warm, romantic tone that beautifully enhances diamonds and flatters fair to medium skin tones.

Mayuri Paris creations in 18k rose gold come with the same 2-year warranty as all our gold pieces.

What is a solitaire engagement ring?

The solitaire is the iconic engagement ring style, featuring a single gemstone showcased on a gold band.

This clean, understated architecture concentrates all attention on the centre stone, generally a diamond, enhanced by its setting. The term "solitaire" refers precisely to the presence of a single main gem.

The strengths of the solitaire:

  • Timeless elegance: a classic that transcends eras
  • Maximum showcase for the stone and its brilliance
  • Versatility: pairs with all styles and wedding bands
  • Strong symbolism: one stone, one unique love

Solitaires form the heart of the collection of gold engagement rings at Mayuri Paris, available in 18k yellow, white or rose gold, with various setting styles to suit every aesthetic preference.

Can a gold engagement ring be resized after purchase?

Yes, an 18k gold engagement ring can generally be resized after purchase, within certain limits.

Resizing possibilities:

  • Adjustment of 1 to 2 sizes is possible in most cases
  • As gold is malleable, a skilled craftsperson can enlarge or reduce the band
  • Simple designs (solitaires, plain bands) are easier to resize
  • Rings fully paved with stones require more delicate work

Before purchasing: we recommend using our free PDF ring sizer to determine the exact size. Mayuri Paris rings are available in sizes 47 to 58 for women, 52 to 70 for men, and any size upon request.

Resizing is offered free of charge within one month of receiving your ring, once only, provided it has not been worn or engraved. Be sure to plan around the date of your proposal to stay within this window. After one month, a quote will be provided upon request. For any questions about resizing, contact us at bonjour@mayuri.fr. We provide lifetime support to assist you.
